Many of us know what it is like to have a “full plate” in life. I am balancing various writing projects, trying to perfect my website, job hunting, praying about my return to full-time mission work and dealing with my elderly mother and the possibility she might have dementia. The other morning it occured to me that maybe, things would be much easier if I just turned it all over to God and waited for him to work things out.
That’s true for all of us. This does not mean we just sit back and watch TV and eat chocolate—as much as some of us would like to do that. We continue to pray and do our part as God shows us. But when we try so hard to figure it all out and make things happen, we end up burned out: exhausted physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We can also get in the way of what God wants to do and actually hinder the solution to our dilemmas.
Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”(NLT) Some translations use the word, “wait” instead of “trust.” To me, this means we are not to run ahead of God, but wait for him to do his part.
And if you’ve ever watched eagles fly, they don’t constantly flap their wings trying to stay aloft. Instead, they find the air currents and ride them. In the same way, we can find the currents of the Holy Spirit, relax and just ride. Our peace and joy return and we find the strength to do our part and enjoy our lives.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord that you love us and care about every detail of our lives and are working on our behalf. AMEN
