Dead people can’t do anything. They just lay there, stiff and cold. They can’t do a thing to
bring themselves back. But while we were dead in our sin, before we loved God or sought him, he made a way back to real life through the sacrifice of his son Jesus. All this was done without us lifting a finger, without any act of volition on our part. All that is needed is to receive that gift of life, turn from our ungodly ways and follow Jesus.
Yes! Jesus did it all. HE took the initiative. HE made us alive. HE raised us up. HE seated us in heavenly places with Christ. Not he will seat us but he seated us—past perfect verb tense—in Christ Jesus. We are now in a position of being in heavenly places along with Christ who was “raised….from the dead and seated….at [the Father’s] right hand in the heavenly places” (Eph. 1:20 NASB).
As Titus 3:5 says, “He saved us, not on the basis of deeds that we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.”
