So how can we see God’s Kingdom come and his will be done in regards to suffering, hunger and unjust situations?
Christians following Christ’s commandments are the only real answer to the problem. Conditions of need and hunger existed in the early church that was established within weeks after Christ’s crucifixion, resurrection and ascension into heaven. Romans 12:13, 1 Timothy 5:18 and James 2:15-16 are only a few verses in the New Testament that encourage individual Christians to share with fellow believers in need.
Of course, when we become acquainted with the love of God, we understand that sharing should extend beyond believers to hurting, needy unbelievers. Meeting physical and emotional needs can be and has been an important doorway to sharing the gospel. However, that same love will compel us to reach out to such people and continue to help, even if they do not respond to the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.
I recently did a word study on Scriptures that mention the poor, the orphan, the widow and the oppressed. I found over eighty verses that reflect God’s heart in this matter or admonish us to meet their needs and fight to win justice and rescue for the victims of evil men.
We are called to be the hands and feet of Christ, to be his ambassadors, his representatives on earth. If each of us does what he or she can, amazing results will be realized.
